Early (Phase I) treatment in young children is usually not a good fit for clear aligners. At that age the teeth are constantly changing as baby teeth give way to permanent ones, which keeps changing the fit and would mean new scans and new aligners, delaying treatment. Clear aligners work best once most of the permanent teeth are in, so most of our aligner patients are teens and adults. For early treatment, braces or other appliances are more predictable.

Braces. They are always on and working, with nothing to remember. Clear aligners ask for real daily effort, wearing them 22+ hours a day. If staying consistent could be a challenge, braces are the lower-effort path.

Both involve a short adjustment period. Our metal self-ligating braces are lower-profile and lower-friction than older braces, and aligners have no brackets at all. Comfort is similar; the bigger difference is lifestyle fit.

In some cases, yes. Our goal is to save you time and money in treatment. If aligners are not worn consistently, it can add appointments and cost, and if we need to switch you to braces, there is a one-time $1,000 fee that covers our material costs and the lab bill already incurred for your aligners.

Yes. Whichever treatment you choose, you receive three sets of retainers, included in your cost, so you always have a backup.

They can. When your bite needs correcting, how your upper and lower teeth fit together, small elastic rubber bands are used, and they can be part of treatment with both braces and clear aligners. Dr. Alex lets you know if your bite needs them and shows you how to wear them.

Yes, with both. For contact sports we recommend a quality mouthguard, like a Shock Doctor, to protect your teeth and braces. With clear aligners you simply take them out and wear your mouthguard. Either way, sports are no problem.

Yes, with both. Wind and brass players may notice a short adjustment period with braces, but nearly everyone adapts quickly. Clear aligners rarely affect playing at all.

You may notice a slight, temporary change in speech with either option while your mouth adjusts, usually only a day or two. It passes quickly and is not noticeable to most people.

With braces, yes: avoid hard, sticky, and chewy foods that can damage brackets and wires. We give you a full list, and most of your favorites still make the cut. With clear aligners there are no food restrictions at all, because you take them out to eat.
